February 2021 Call of the Month

February 2021
Call of the Month

Metro Paramedic Employees assigned to Rosemont Public Safety Department were dispatched by NORCOMM Public Safety Communications for a subject with difficulty breathing. While en route to the call, NORCOMM Telecommunicators Mark Ducar Jr. and Mark Sicco advised the responding units that the patient had become unresponsive and that they were in process of providing instructions to the family to begin performing CPR using their pre-arrival emergency medical protocols.

Rosemont Ambulance 56, staffed by Metro Paramedic employees Tom Lane and Craig Reinert, requested additional assistance. Rosemont Ambulance 57, staffed by Metro Paramedic employees Patrick Marshall and John Rizzuto, also responded with Rosemont Station 56 fire companies.

Crews were on scene within two minutes and were confronted by hysterical family members and an unconscious patient with ineffective agonal respirations laying on the kitchen floor. The paramedics worked together to perform drug-assisted intubation.

By providing an advanced airway and other appropriately aggressive ALS measures, the team prevented a rapidly impending cardiac arrest. The patient was transported to the local hospital and admitted to the ICU. After recovering, the patient was released to his home and family.

Without the rapid response, calmness under pressure, and decisive care that was provided by paramedics Tom Lane, Craig Reinert, Patrick Marshall, and John Rizzuto, the patient undoubtedly would not have survived.

Congratulations to Metro Paramedic employees Tom Lane, Craig Reinert, Patrick Marshall, and John Rizzuto and NORCOMM’s Mark Ducar Jr. and Mark Sicco for being recognized as Metro Paramedic Services & NORCOMM’s February 2021 Call of the Month! Thank you for all that you do and keep up the good work!
