Metro's Morgan, Bjorklund Honored with CDH Call of the Month

Two Metro Paramedics employees were recently honored by Central Dupage Hospital with the “Call of the Month” award for July.

Metro’s Gabi Morgan and Mark Bjorklund received the award for their work with the Glen Ellyn Fire Department.

“We received the ‘Call of the Month’ award for working an allergic reaction turned full anaphylactic shock while we had limited manpower,” Morgan said.

“I had no idea the call would be special or difficult, as the dispatch had no special remarks about the call. When I found out we had won I felt proud of both my partner and me since we worked that call by ourselves until a driver could arrive. I am lucky to work in a field where we are given something new every day. Sometimes along the way, we get to do cool stuff like this call,” Morgan said.

“I’ve been a paramedic with Metro for over a year now and I like it a lot,” Bjorklund said. “We received the award for a person in anaphylaxis with the limited manpower we had and were unable to receive at the time. At the time we did not know of the difficult airway but with the call we had, it was likely. I was very happy that we received the award. Working for Metro is great. It’s a great opportunity and my coworkers are fun to work with. It’s all about that service with a smile!”

Morgan has also been with Metro for over a year and echoed Bjorklund’s sentiments in receiving the award. “I’m just doing my job. I’m happy to serve my community.”

Northwestern Medicine Central Dupage Hospital has been named one America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for four straight years. They were ranked No. 10 in the nation and No. 1 in Illinois and in the Chicago Metro Region for 2019-2020.
